Project Summary:

interRel created an application involving Planning Costs for a worldwide agriculture business. The customer needed to plan costs at each stage of growing, generation of seed, crop year which varies not only by year but also by which hemisphere crops are grown, location and product. As one can imagine, this costing is done at a very low level of detail; however, the results of budgeting at this level provide a very realistic picture of the future.

My role in the project was to help the customer gather data from disparate sources into the Planning application. This involved integrating key data elements from SAP, Teradata, Oracle, Excel and Essbase. The final result is the Planning application that the customer uses for strategic planning.

The end result is that interRel helped provide fully automated and integrated “one version of the truth” for Actuals, Budgets, and Forecasting on a worldwide scale while providing management reporting for key decision making throughout the organization.

Project Summary:

Implementation of a world-class EPM solution comprised of Hyperion Planning, HFM, and DRM for one of the leading Construction companies in buildings, civil infrastructure, and heavy industrial markets based out of Edmonton, Canada. The Planning implementation was made up of the following: Balance Sheet, Workforce, Billing (Profit), Overhead (Recovery/Expenses) for their Consolidation Budgeting, and Forecasting process and reporting solution.

As the Planning lead and architect, I led one of the largest projects within the company at that time. This project strengthened my ability to manage a large team and coordinate the dependencies of all the moving parts, and being a better mentor to the staff consultants. I learned so many great things on this project which grew my skillset in this industry.Throughout the project, we were able to keep a positive partnership with the client.

Many things “worked” on this project which the team can apply to their future projects and share with the company towards other successful implementations. A few things that worked were constant open communication amongst the team and client, client preparedness prior to the engagement with their requirements, prototyping during Design, development reviews during Build, client commitment to UAT, and most importantly having fun with the people you work with! All of this hard work and commitment from the team was rewarded with winning Project of the Year at interRel University in 2014!

Project is with a large Health Care Provider that is implementing TDABC to track patient/resource cost and capacity utilization for resources throughout the company.

This project uses the leading practices of TDABC as a design framework. Combining the vision described in TDABC with financial/IT background and passion for building effective financial solutions is invigorating. The project provides the opportunity to architect and build a solution with a great team. There are plenty of challenges including the integration of data from many different data sources into a common solution. Designing a simple solution in a complex environment is exciting.

The application built provides the analytical means by which to provide accountability and a better understanding of costs. It measures patient and resource cost and utilization of resources. Processes are automated enabling users to focus on managing the business. In addition, there is a great deal of flexibility for ad-hoc analysis.
