This is a monumental achievement in the technology services industry, where attrition is high and consultants are aggressively sought after by competitors.
According to insidebiz.com, employers across the globe are facing an estimated 161.7 million resignations this year, but interRel has not been in the same Predicament. The company’s retention record took hold in 2012 as the economy improved and the company focused on project delivery. No one knew it would begin an 18-month streak, setting what could be the longest known record for any consulting firm in the industry.
Back in September 2012, CEO of interRel, Edward Roske, promised everyone in the company a special t-shirt if they made it to a year with no resignations. When the one year anniversary arrived in September 2013, each employee received a special package with a T-shirt that read “My company went a year with 0 resignations and all I got was this lousy t-shirt (and a $5,000 raise).” Employees started posting pictures on various social media sites displaying their shock and gratitude for such a generous and creative gift.
“Hitting the milestone of one-year is something I couldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams or best case scenario,” Roske told employees in a YouTube video, recorded in September 2013, to affirm that the t-shirts were not a joke. Roske continued, “12 months without anyone in the entire company quitting? The least we could do was give everyone a shirt. We felt that it should be accompanied by a $5,000 raise for every single employee at the company. The loyalty and commitment of our employees is incredible.”
interRel wasn’t just retaining its employees in the last year, it has also been growing. Since 2012, interRel added 16 new employees across the country of which two are former interRel employees who explored other options but decided interRel was their true fit.
