Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, September 24, 2013 – interRel Consulting and WellPoint were awarded the 2013 Oracle Excellence Award for Innovation in Business Analytics (EPM, Exalytics, & Business Intelligence) at the 2013 Oracle OpenWorld conference. The award was presented to WellPoint’s Director of EPM, Jonathon Eastman, and a team of interRel consultants including Jason Novikoff and Ross Schwartzberg. Matt Bradley, Senior Vice President of EPM Development presented the award at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
The Oracle Excellence Awards recognizes customers and implementation partners for outstanding, cutting-edge solutions using Oracle Fusion Middleware. WellPoint and interRel were chosen for WellPoint’s implementation of Oracle Essbase 18.104.22.168 on Exalytics. WellPoint, the largest health insurer in America, is the first company in the world to go live on the 22.214.171.124 Exalytics platform. The WellPoint business case was selected among 260 submissions for uniqueness of its business case, business benefits, level of impact relative to the size of the organization, complexity and magnitude of implementation, and the originality of architecture.
WellPoint’s Exalytics Business Case
WellPoint implemented Exalytics in response to the Affordable Care Act (2010), which imposed many new challenges and opportunities to WellPoint’s Financial Accounting, Reporting/BI and Budgeting systems. WellPoint’s two primary challenges included integration of multiple acquisitions of billion dollar companies and regulation requirements of Quality Improvement reporting, Risk Corridors, Health Insurance Exchanges and more. WellPoint’s defined business objectives were: 1) compliance with ACA’s regulatory requirements using Oracle EPM/BI; 2) integration of acquisitions into the Oracle EPM/BI system; and 3) cost minimization of the implementation.
WellPoint embraced Oracle’s new engineered system, Exalytics, by rolling out three Exalytics servers networked with 10G Ethernet to replace the 13 IBM boxes and integrated their Exalytics environment with PeopleSoft Financials 9.0. The implementation reduced the total cost of ownership by 50% with a simpler environment that is faster and easier to maintain. Performance increased by up to 4-fold and Wellpoint’s savings is estimated to be hundreds of thousands of dollars.
interRel CEO and Oracle ACE Director Edward Roske said at the awards ceremony, “We are honored to win this prestigious award alongside WellPoint, a long-standing, distinguished client whose employees consistently strive to make the company an efficient Oracle EPM/BI machine. WellPoint isn’t looking for a senior Hyperion consultant to take direction; they are looking for expertise in defining a long-term strategic solution. It has been an honor to work with WellPoint throughout the years and we look forward to a strong relationship in the future.”
